Contraindication:

Do not use laser treatment if you hale any of the conditions listed below.

• If you are pregnant.
• If you have a cold-sore – when removing hair from upper lip.
• If you take light allergy medication or retioids.
• If you suffer from diabetes, epilepsy, psoriasis, scars, albinism.
• If you suffer from blemishes.
• If you suffer from blood condition.
• If you use herbal remedies based on hypericum ( St John’s wort) or marigold (you should stop using them 2-3 weeks before the treatment).
• If you use cosmetics based on retinol (you should stop using at least 4 weeks before the treatment).
• If you have used sunbeds ( you should stop using 4 weeks before the treatment) or spray tan (stop using 2 weeks before the treatment).
• If you have used any kind of epilation ( you should stop using 4 weeks before the treatment).
• If you have used peeling (you should stop using 1 week before the treatment).
• If you have gray or red hair, it does not react to laser treatment due to the lack of melanin.

What to do before the treatment:

Before the first treatment you will have to consult our specialist. They will conduct a consultation assessing your skin type. A qualified member of staff will carry out a laser test to ensure your skin type is suitable for the treatment, which takes only a few minutes.

• The area should be shaven and free from cosmetics one night prior to the treatment.
• When removing hair prior to the treatment use a razor or a hair removing cream. Waxing, tweezing or epilators should not be used.
• The treatment cannot be carried out on areas with scrapes, sores, spots etc. They all have to be healed.

What to do after the treatment:

• Protect the skin from the sun for at least 2 weeks.
• Use sun screen creams (SPF 30-100).
• Between the treatments do not use medication specified in contraindication section.
• Do not use peeling cosmetics up to 2 weeks after the treatment.
• After the treatment do not use alcohol based cosmetics.
• Until the skin is healed do not use swimming pools and saunas.
• Use soothing creams (Alantan, Solcoseryl, Termcool or Bepanten) for 2-3 day after the treatment.
• Do not epilate hair up to 6 weeks after the treatment (4 weeks on face areas), when shaving use a razor.
• Repeat the treatment every 4-8 weeks (depending on skin tone and body area). Shorter or longer periods may lessen the effectiveness of the treatments.

Every skin type reacts differently to laser epilation. Some reactions may include rash (erythema), hair follicle swelling, sores or blemishes. The reaction may last up to a few hours (up to a few weeks with very sensitive skin).

For laser epilation to be 100% effective at least 4 treatments should be carried out. Nevertheless the total number of treatments depends on individual needs, hair type (especially when suffering endocrinological conditions).

How the laser works

The laser works using laser light which destroys hair right in the hair follicle preventing its regrowth.

LightSheer Duet is the most effective laser available. It works using a system of powerful diods and Vacuum epilation.

It uses a powerful diod matix (1600 – 2900 W) as a light source. The light pulses reach up to 800 nm (the safe dose for human beings is between 700 – 1000 nm). It goes down to 2 mm into the skin, so it does not affect the body functions. All those combined ensure the treatment is effective.

The key factor in laser epilation is hair growth cycle. Laser epilation only removes hair that is in a growth phase. Due to different growth stages that hair is in, a series of treatments should be performed. The time between the treatments should allow for hair to reach the appropriate growth phase. Each hair goes through 3 stages of growth:

• Growing stage (anagen) – hair is visible on the skin surface and reacts to laser light. The hair stem is stuck tightly in the hair follicle while growing. Treatments performed on hair in that stage is the most efficient.
• Changing stage (katagen) – hibernation stage, in which hair stops growing (lasts 3-8 weeks), hair is still in the hair follicle, but the stem is separated from the matrix of hair follicle.
• Resting stage (telogen) – hair is still based in the hair follicle, but starts sliding out and eventually falls out. New hair starts growing.

Hair falls out after the treatment as it is burnt.

The amount of hair removed equals the amount of hair which hair follicle has been destroyed. After the first treatment 30 – 40 % of all hair is removed (depends on the area), after 3-4 treatments 95%. The remaining hair is the most delicate, fair and usually invisible.

FAQs

IS LASER EPILATION SAFE?

Yes. The treatments are performed by qualified salon staff. Protective eye wear is worn to guard eyes against laser light exposure. Closely following the right procedures reduces the risk to none.

To prevent infections laser heads are desinfected regularly. During the treatment the head is cleaned to remove burnt hair.

Side effects are very rare.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR COMPLETE HAIR REMOVAL?

The total number of treatments needed for complete hair removal depends on skin type and hair type. The number varies from 3 to 6 treatments performed on any given skin area. The treatments need to be repeated due to different hair growth stages. Only hair in the first phase (visible on the skin) can be removed permanently by laser. Hair in other stages do not absorb enough laser light and will regrow. That is why a series of treatment is needed.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE TREATMENTS BE PERFORMED?

The frequency of treatments depends on individual needs of each customer. Hair that has been removed by laser light will not grow back. The hair that is in hibernating stage are in a deeper part of the skin and cannot be reached by the laser light. It takes about 4 – 8 weeks for it to grow and then the treatment should be repeated.
